About Mick Schumacher
Biography
Mick Schumacher is a German IndyCar driver who will make his debut with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in 2026. Mick is the son of seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher and competed in Formula 1 himself for two seasons. The Road to the IndyCar Series
That Mick Schumacher inherited his father’s genes was evident at a young age as he climbed the European feeder series on the path to Formula 1. The German finished second in both the German and Italian Formula 4 championships (2016), won the FIA Formula 3 Championship (2018) and subsequently also claimed the Formula 2 Championship (2020). Notably, Schumacher generally needed one season per category to get up to speed before truly challenging for the title. After securing the Formula 2 title in 2020, he made his Formula 1 debut with the Haas F1 Team a year later. Despite outperforming his teammate, fellow rookie Nikita Mazepin, Schumacher was unable to score any points that season.
A year later, Haas’ Formula 1 car was significantly more competitive and Schumacher scored 12 points, with a sixth-place finish in Austria as his best result. However, he was still outperformed by his experienced teammate Kevin Magnussen, who scored 25 points. The combination of underwhelming results and numerous crashes brought his Formula 1 career to an early end after just two seasons.
In 2023, Schumacher remained active in Formula 1 as a reserve driver for Mercedes and McLaren, but did not compete in a single race. In 2024, he therefore made the switch to the FIA World Endurance Championship, where he drove Alpine’s Hypercar. Despite scoring three third-place finishes over the two seasons he competed in this class, the Alpine program proved unsuccessful.
After two seasons in sports cars, Schumacher explored his options in 2025 to resume his career in open-wheel racing. He secured a test with the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team, where he immediately made a strong impression. As a result, he was offered a contract to make his IndyCar debut in 2026.
