About us
OpenWheelWorld.net was founded in September 2004 as ChampCar.nl by Patrick Straver, with the aim of supporting the Champ Car World Series. ChampCar.nl was the first Champ Car news site in the Dutch-speaking market.
After the 2005 season, work began on international sites, leading to the expansion of ChampCar.nl with German- and English-language versions. In early 2007, a new international name was launched: ChampCarWorld.net. That year, ChampCar.nl became the official news partner of the Dutch Champ Car Grand Prix and, along with SBS 6, was the only Dutch media outlet fully accredited by Champ Car.
In 2008, ChampCar.nl / ChampCarWorld.net merged into OpenWheelWorld.net due to the 'reunification' of the Champ Car World Series and the Indy Racing League, which resulted in the disappearance of the Champ Car name. Since 2008, OpenWheelWorld.net has covered the 'united' IndyCar Series.
OpenWheelWorld.net operated under A.M.P. American Motorsports Promotions for many years, with all revenue reinvested directly into the website. However, since 2016, it has been a fully volunteer project. Since early 2022, OpenWheelWorld.net no longer focuses on breaking news, instead prioritizing additional insights, backgrounds, results, and standings.
The goal of the website is to make the IndyCar Series accessible and understandable for racing fans around the world. That's why the English version of OpenWheelWorld.net focuses not only on the American market but also on Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.
