About the 2025 IndyCar Schedule
The 2025 IndyCar Series schedule features seventeen races. The season is spread across sixteen race weekends – only during the race weekend at Iowa Speedway will two races be held. Drivers will once again be challenged by a diverse range of tracks: six oval races, four street course races, and seven races on permanent road courses.
There are no major changes to the schedule this season. The most notable differences are that the race at The Thermal Club will count toward the championship and that there will be just one race at the Milwaukee Mile this year, instead of two.
The Start of the Season
Traditionally, the season kicks off with the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on March 2. Three weeks later, the IndyCar circus heads to The Thermal Club in Thermal, California. Three weeks after that, racing returns to California, this time in the streets of Long Beach.
The Traditional Month of May
Things really pick up in early May. This begins with the race at Barber Motorsports Park on May 4, followed six days later by the Grand Prix of Indianapolis. Three days after the finish of this race, engines will roar again as preparations begin for the Indy 500. The weekend of May 17 and 18 will be dedicated to qualifying, culminating in the Indianapolis 500 on May 25, known as ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.’
Three Races in June
One week after the Indy 500, drivers will return to action on the streets of Detroit. As in the past two years, this race will take place in downtown Detroit, after having been held for many years on Belle Isle. Following this race, drivers and teams will enjoy a well-earned week of rest.
After the street course in Detroit, June truly becomes a diverse month. First, the short oval at WWT Raceway will host a race, followed by the challenging Road America circuit.
A Packed July Schedule
In July, IndyCar fans will get their fill: five races will be held over four weekends. The month kicks off with a visit to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on July 6, followed by doubleheader races at Iowa Speedway on July 12 and 13. A week later, the only international trip is scheduled: the Canadian city of Toronto. Racing will take place on the street course around the Exhibition Centre on July 20. The busy month concludes with a race at the legendary Laguna Seca.
No Summer Break in 2025
Unlike previous seasons, there will be no summer break in 2025. Two weeks after the race at Laguna Seca, the IndyCar field will head to the Pacific Northwest for the Grand Prix of Portland.
Championship Decided by Late August
The IndyCar season will end in 2025 by late August. This is due to the start of the American football season in early September, as FOX, the network broadcasting IndyCar in the U.S., also airs American football. The penultimate race will take place at the Milwaukee Mile, followed by the season finale at Nashville Superspeedway on August 31.
