Motorsport Debut and Dominance in Formula 4 (2017)

After a successful karting career, Christian Lundgaard made his motorsport debut in 2017 in the SMP Formula 4 Championship with MP Motorsport. The Dane immediately made an impression in this class by securing nine pole positions and ten victories, convincingly claiming the title. In addition to a seat in the SMP Formula 4 Championship, MP Motorsport also entered a car for Lundgaard in the Spanish Formula 4 Championship. With seven wins, the talent from Hedensted also claimed this title.

Lundgaard also competed in three races in the Danish Formula 4 Championship that year with his father Henrik Lundgaard's team. In these three races, he impressed by setting the fastest lap twice and earning a podium finish.

Success in Formula Renault and GP3 Series (2018)

In 2018, Lundgaard moved to the Formula Renault Eurocup, where he won four races for MP Motorsport and finished second in the championship. Additionally, he competed in the Formula Renault NEC, where he won two races, and also raced in two GP3 Series events, once again for MP Motorsport.

FIA Formula 3 and Macau Grand Prix (2019)

In 2019, Lundgaard was full-time in the FIA Formula 3 Championship and finished sixth in the standings for ART Grand Prix, with one victory. Alongside his full-time participation in this class, he also competed in two Formula 2 races and took part in three races in the F3 Asian Winter Series. That year, he also made his debut in the Macau Grand Prix, finishing in fourth place.

Debut in FIA Formula 2 (2020)

In 2020, Lundgaard made his debut in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, again with ART Grand Prix. He had a solid first season, finishing seventh overall, with two standout victories at the Red Bull Ring and Mugello. In 2021, Christian Lundgaard competed in his second Formula 2 season, once again with ART Grand Prix.

IndyCar Debut and Transition to America (2021)

The year 2021 was not only marked by Lundgaard’s second, and as it turned out, final season in Formula 2. The Dane also made his debut in the NTT IndyCar Series during the Big Machine Spiked Coolers Grand Prix on the infield circuit of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, driving for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in the car numbered 45. Lundgaard impressively qualified in fourth and finished the race in twelfth place.

Rookie of the Year and First IndyCar Win (2022)

His strong IndyCar debut earned him a full-time contract for the 2022 season with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. During his rookie season, Lundgaard immediately showcased his potential. Thanks to a second-place finish at the infield circuit of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, he won the Rookie of the Year title. A year later (2023), the Dane claimed his first pole positions and victory in Toronto, finishing eighth in the championship.

Challenging Final Season with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (2024)

Lundgaard's third and final season with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing was challenging. The year started well with a third-place finish in the Grand Prix of Indianapolis, but over the course of the season, he gradually slipped in the standings. This was compounded by the mid-season confirmation that he would be switching to McLaren in 2025.
