As on the first test day, the second day was also split into two groups; the drivers who ran on Monday morning took part in the afternoon session, and vice versa. The field was expanded on Tuesday with Ed Carpenter Racing, which conducted a rookie test day for Hunter McElrea.
Another notable point is that the fastest rookie of the test does not yet have a seat for the new season. McElrea was a tenth of a second quicker in the morning session than Caio Collet was in the afternoon. Both were significantly faster than Dennis Hauger and Mick Schumacher, who were unable to record a lap within 53 seconds.
The IndyCar teams’ testing program continues next week with the Unser IndyCar Open Test at Phoenix International Raceway. The IndyCar-organized test is free for fans to attend, will include an autograph session, and can be followed via live timing on IndyCar.com and the IndyCar app.
