After the restart of Saturday’s race was postponed to Sunday morning due to rain, the race has now been pushed back to the end of Sunday. It is currently dry in Milwaukee, but the track cannot be dried in time to give teams enough time for potential repairs after the Sunday race. As a result, the race has been moved to 5:00 PM local time.

That means the restart of the race will take place after Sunday’s race. The start of that race is scheduled for 12:20 PM local time (1:20 PM ET) and does not appear to be at risk from precipitation, as no more rain is currently forecast for Milwaukee.

Saturday’s race was able to get underway with a 40-minute delay, but the first raindrops began to fall after 64 laps. The field continued behind the pace car until lap 90, when race control threw the red flag to stop the race. After that, no sufficiently dry window was found to restart the race. Race control attempted to restart the race at 8:00 AM local time on Sunday morning, but that attempt was also unsuccessful.

The race will now restart at 5:00 PM local time, approximately 3 hours after the finish of Sunday’s race. This means drivers who suffer damage during Sunday’s race will have only limited time for repairs, raising the question of whether all drivers will be able to take the restart.

The race will restart with Pato O’Ward leading the field, ahead of Felix Rosenqvist, Alexander Rossi, Josef Newgarden and Christian Lundgaard.

In 13th place, David Malukas is the first driver on an alternative pit strategy. These drivers made an extra pit stop at the beginning of the yellow. This strategy could prove beneficial in two ways: these drivers have tires that are 10 to 15 laps fresher than those of the drivers in the top 12, and they can run 10 to 15 laps longer before their next stop. If a caution comes out during those laps, they will have a major advantage. If no caution occurs, the drivers on the conventional strategy will have the advantage, as they were able to run those laps on newer and faster tires.
