As on the first test day, the second day was also split into two groups; the drivers who ran on Monday morning took part in the afternoon session, and vice versa. The field was expanded on Tuesday with Ed Carpenter Racing, which conducted a rookie test day for Hunter McElrea.
Notably, the fastest time on the second test day was once again set during the cooler morning session. Armstrong underlined his pace by topping both sessions in which he participated.Another notable point is that the fastest rookie of the test does not yet have a seat for the new season. McElrea was a tenth of a second quicker in the morning session than Caio Collet was in the afternoon. Both were significantly faster than Dennis Hauger and Mick Schumacher, who were unable to record a lap within 53 seconds.
The IndyCar teams’ testing program continues next week with the Unser IndyCar Open Test at Phoenix International Raceway. The IndyCar-organized test is free for fans to attend, will include an autograph session, and can be followed via live timing on IndyCar.com and the IndyCar app.
