Alex Palou continued where he left off last year during the first official test day of 2026 by setting the fastest time. The reigning champion topped the morning session, and no one was able to beat his time in the afternoon. Felix Rosenqvist posted the second-fastest time of the day, while Rinus VeeKay ended the day in third place.

Nine of the ten confirmed teams took part in the first test day. Only Ed Carpenter Racing remained sidelined, as the team had already completed a test day during the winter with Alexander Rossi and Christian Rasmussen. For the second test day, the team will make use of a rookie test, running Hunter McElrea, who has made just one race start to date (Toronto 2024).

Much of the attention on the first test day was focused on Dale Coyne Racing, which has yet to confirm a driver as Dennis Hauger’s teammate. Romain Grosjean was given the opportunity to drive the No. 18 car featuring bmax.io sponsorship.

The 22-car field has been split into two groups for the test, with one group running Monday morning and Tuesday afternoon, and the other group taking part in the Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning sessions.

The fastest lap times of the day were set during the cooler morning session. The entire top four from that session was quicker than the fastest time of the afternoon session, which was set by Marcus Armstrong.
