After a long winter, it is finally time for the major preseason IndyCar tests. Following several private and tire tests already conducted by a number of teams, nearly the entire IndyCar field will be testing for two days this week at Sebring International Raceway. The testing program continues next week with the official Unser IndyCar Open Test at Phoenix International Raceway.

This week, nearly the full field will take part in the Sebring test on Monday, February 9 and Tuesday, February 10. The only team missing is Prema, which is experiencing financial difficulties and is currently seeking a buyer. Because the short course configuration of Sebring International Raceway will be used, the field will be split into two groups: one group will run the morning session on Monday and the afternoon session on Tuesday, while the second group will run the afternoon session on Monday and the morning session on Tuesday.

Although nearly all teams are participating in the Sebring test, it is a private test. As a result, no live timing is expected to be available and no official results will be published. However, it is common for information to emerge during the test.

Phoenix International Raceway Much attention during the test will be focused on the second car of Dale Coyne Racing, the only entry that has not yet confirmed a driver. For a long time, Romain Grosjean appeared to be the leading candidate, but rumors have surfaced regarding payment issues involving the team’s sponsors. This has reportedly brought Conor Daly into consideration, as he has more personal sponsorship backing.

Next week, testing will take place at Phoenix International Raceway on Tuesday, February 17 and Wednesday, February 18. On Tuesday, running will be limited to a single five-hour afternoon session, while Wednesday will feature two three-hour sessions. As this is an official Open Test, the circuit will be open to fans free of charge and an autograph session will take place. For fans unable to attend in person, live timing will be available for these sessions via IndyCar.com.

Following the test days, the new IndyCar season will get underway on Sunday, March 1, on the streets of St. Petersburg.
