Just like last year, Josef Newgarden’s pit crew has once again won the annual Indy 500 Pit Stop Challenge. In an all-Team Penske final between the crews of Newgarden and Will Power, Newgarden’s #2 crew came out on top, setting a new record in the pit stop competition! Along with the bragging rights, the crew members also take home a shared prize of $50,000.

Based on previous race performances, the fourteen best pit crews qualify each year to compete in the Pit Stop Challenge. Each pit stop involves a standing start, after which the driver pulls into the pit for a four-tire change before racing to cross the finish line.

In the knockout format, the semifinals featured a showdown between Pato O’Ward and Josef Newgarden in the first matchup, followed by Scott Dixon versus Will Power in the second. Newgarden and Power emerged victorious, setting up an all-Penske final.

The final – a best-of-three showdown – was a fast-paced battle. In the semifinals, Newgarden’s #2 crew had already set a new pit stop record with a time of 10.72 seconds, but in the first round of the final, they improved it even further to 10.45 seconds!

Power’s #12 crew wasn’t ready to give up and won the second round with a time of 10.55 seconds, forcing a decisive third round. Under pressure, both Penske crews delivered, but Newgarden’s #2 crew not only beat the #12 crew, they did it in record-breaking fashion once again – this time stopping the clock at 10.26 seconds!
