About the 2026 IndyCar calendar

The 2026 IndyCar Series calendar features seventeen races. The season is spread across sixteen race weekends — only the Milwaukee Mile race weekend will feature two races. Once again, the drivers will be challenged by a wide variety of circuits: six oval races, five street races, and six races on permanent road courses.

There are a significant number of changes this year:

  • Iowa Speedway has been removed from the calendar
  • the race in Toronto has been moved to nearby Markham
  • a new street race has been added in Arlington, Texas
  • Phoenix Raceway returns after a seven-year absence
  • Laguna Seca will host the season finale this year, instead of Nashville

  • The start of the season

Where recent seasons got off to a slow start due to a lack of races in March, the 2026 season begins immediately with three races on three consecutive weekends! As usual, the season kicks off on the streets of St. Petersburg, after which the field heads to Phoenix for a shared race weekend with the NASCAR Cup Series at Phoenix Raceway. One week later, the field races on the brand-new street circuit in Arlington.

The Grand Prix of Alabama has been moved up by a month this year and will be held at the end of March, while the renowned Grand Prix of Long Beach will take place in mid-April.

    The traditional month of May

The traditional month of May begins in 2026 with the Grand Prix of Indianapolis. Three days after the finish of that race, the engines will be fired up again, this time for the start of practice for the Indy 500. The weekend of May 16 and 17 will be dedicated to qualifying, after which ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing’ will take place on May 24: the Indianapolis 500. The month concludes with a race on the streets of Detroit.

Fewer races in June and July

In recent years, June and July have been very busy months for the IndyCar teams, but in 2026 they will enjoy a noticeably lighter schedule! This is a result of the FIFA World Cup, which will be held in part in the United States and Canada, and for which FOX holds the broadcasting rights. As a result, only the races at WWT Raceway (Gateway) and Road America will be held in June, followed by races at Mid-Ohio and Nashville Superspeedway in July.

    A late-season championship sprint

The season concludes this year with a true late-season sprint, featuring five races within a single month! The race in Portland will be held on August 9, followed one week later by the only Canadian race on the new street circuit in Markham. Two weeks later, no fewer than two races will be held at the Milwaukee Mile, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. The season wraps up one week later at Laguna Seca.
