Rocketsports was founded in 1985 by Paul Gentilozzi, who is now a co-owner of the Champ Car World Series. The team participated in the Trans Am series until 2004 when the series ended. Rocketsports entered Champ Car in 2003 and picked up their first win in 2004 at Elkhart Lake with Alex Tagliani. At the end of 2006, Rocketsports fielded cars for Mario Dominguez and Antonio Pizzonia.
