Before Prema Racing's arrival in America, the team had already firmly established itself in European formula racing. The team is active across the entire ladder leading to Formula 1: karting, Formula 4, Formula Regional, Formula 3, and Formula 2. In these racing categories, the team has won numerous championships.
Prema was founded in Italy in 1983 by Angelo Rosin and Giorgio Piccolo. Initially, it was an Italian Formula 3 team, but starting in the late 1990s, it began to expand within Italian motorsport. In 2003, the team entered the international stage with the European Formula 3 Championship. From there, it grew steadily, offering more steps on the ladder toward Formula 1.
Adding the entire Formula 1 ladder to Prema’s portfolio didn’t stop the team’s ambitions. In 2022, the team expanded into the FIA World Endurance Championship, competing in the LMP2 class with an Oreca for the first two seasons. By 2024, the team moved up to the Hypercar class, contributing to Lamborghini’s factory program.
The team’s growth ambitions didn’t stop with the sports car program. In 2024, Prema set its sights on the IndyCar Series, marking its first step into the United States. Starting in 2025, the team will field two cars, with Callum Ilott and Robert Shwartzman as its drivers.
