    Oriol Servià maakte al vroeg in zijn carrière de keuze om in de Verenigde Staten te racen. Na een vierde plaats in de Franse Formule 3 koos hij er voor om in 1998 in de Indy Lights te rijden, waarin hij het kampioenschap een jaar later pakte. Dit maakte de weg vrij voor zijn Champ Car debuut voor PPI Motorsports in 2000. In zijn eerste jaar maakte Servià direct indruk door tien van de twintig races in de top tien te finishen, waarvan éénmaal op het podium.

    Servià’s carrière vervolgde zich bij een opeenstapeling van teams. Via Sigma Autosport, PWR Racing, Patrick Racing en Dale Coyne Racing, kreeg hij in 2005 eindelijk de kans om vooraan mee te strijden dankzij een contract dat hij kreeg bij Newman/Haas Racing als vervanger van de geblesseerde Bruno Junqueira. In 11 races finishte Servià maar liefst zeven keer op het podium en pakte zijn eerste overwinning in Montreal. Een tweede plaats in het kampioenschap was dan ook zijn beste resultaat uit zijn carrière.

    Na dit indrukwekkende seizoen bleef loon naar werken uit voor de Spanjaard en bleef zijn carrière zo stormachtig verlopen als voor het 2005-seizoen. In 2006 reed Servià voor PKV Racing, waarna hij in 2007 via een deeltijd stoeltje bij Forsythe Racing weer voor het 2008 seizoen bij het naar ‘KV Racing’ omgedoopte team terugkeerde. 2009 zou voor Servià een soort tussenjaar worden, waarin hij slechts vijf races reed, voor Rahal Letterman Racing en Newman/Haas Racing. In 2010 kwam Servià helemaal niet in actie in IndyCar maar in 2011 keerde hij terug bij Newman/Haas Racing waar hij een zeer sterk seizoen meemaakte en als vierde in het kampioenschap eindigde.

    Ook dit keer kon Servià niet op zijn succes bij Newman/Haas voortbouwen, doordat het team zich uit IndyCar terugtrok. Dit opende echter wel de deur bij Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, waar hij in 2012 zich opnieuw in de kijker wist te rijden.

    In 2013 reed de Spanjaard in eerste instantie wederom voor Dreyer & Reinbold en werd onder andere vierde in Sao Paulo maar het team moest na vijf wedstrijden het seizoen opgeven door een gebrek aan sponsoren. Servià kreeg de kans om later in dat seizoen meerdere wedstrijden te rijden bij Panther Racing. In 2014 reed Oriol Servià vier wedstrijden voor het team van Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing waaronder de allereerste Grand Prix of Indianapolis op het infield van de Indianapolis Motor Speedway en de Indianapolis 500.

    In 2015 zou Servià in eerste instantie enkel en alleen de Indianapolis 500 rijden bij Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing maar doordat Justin Wilson om het leven kwam na op het hoofd geraakt te zijn door een brokstuk van de gecrashte Sage Karam, werd Servià door Wilson's team, Andretti Autosport, gevraagd om voor de Engelsman in te vallen tijdens de seizoensfinale op Sonoma Raceway.

    Het seizoen 2016 begon voor Servià onverwacht ietsje eerder dan gepland. De Spanjaard had in eerste instantie een contract getekend bij Schmidt Peterson Motorsports with Marotti Racing om de 100e Indianapolis 500 te gaan rijden bij dat team, echter werd de enkelvoudig race winnaar op de avond voorafgaand aan de seizoensopener in St. Petersburg gebeld door Roger Penske of hij de zieke Will Power kon vervangen die leed aan een hersenschudding.

    In 2017 reed Oriol Servià drie wedstrijden bij Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, namelijk de Indianapolis 500 en beide wedstrijden in de straten van Detroit, Belle Isle. In 2018 reed Servià wederom de Indianapolis 500 bij Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in samenwerking met Scuderia Corsa en leek de Spanjaard tot hij in de slotronden van de race de pits moest opzoeken voor brandstof zelfs even kans te maken op de zege.

    Dit jaar zal de nog altijd snelle Oriol Servià de Indianapolis 500 rijden in een derde bolide voor het team van Arrow Schmidt-Peterson Motorsports in samenwerking met Team Stange Racing.
