Biografie
De jonge Belg maakt indruk als hij na een aantal jaren gekart te hebben in 2001 een finale plaats bij het Formule Ford Festival in Brands Hatch haalt. In 2002 wint hij de race zelfs. Colin Kolles haalt Heylen binnen bij zijn F3 en laat hem de F3 Euroseries rijden, deze stap lijkt echter teveel en halverwege het seizoen zit Heylen zonder team. In 2004 komt Heylen uit voor Astromega in de FIA F3000 maar ook dit avontuur is van korte duur, na 4 races is Heylen weg bij het team en komt hij kort daarna in actie in de Duitse F3. Hierin is hij heer en meester en eindigt hij als 3e algemeen met 6 overwinningen. Het eenzitter verhaal houdt daarna op en Heylen stapt over naar de Megane Trophy. Deze serie bevalt hem beter en hij pakt dan ook de titel. Een aantal testen in verschillende klassen volgen totdat Heylen zijn debuut maakt in de Champ Cars tijdens de Long Beach GP.Prestaties per type circuit
