Matheus Leist is sinds 2018 actief in de NTT IndyCar Series, hij maakte dat jaar zijn debuut bij het team van de legendarische A.J. Foyt. De jonge Braziliaan, welke samen met zijn ervaren landgenoot Tony Kanaan sinds datzelfde seizoen het Braziliaanse feestje bij het team van A.J. Foyt Enterprises compleet maakt, reed in 2017 een seizoen in de Indy Lights series waar hij drie overwinningen wist te pakken namens het team van Carlin om vervolgens vierde in de eindstand te worden.

Voordat Leist naar de Verenigde Staten vertrok reed hij in thuisland Brazilië en in Europa waarin hij onder andere actief was in het Britse Formule 3 kampioenschap dat hij in 2016 als debutant zijnde meteen op zijn naam wist te schrijven.

Het debuutseizoen van Matheus Leist in IndyCar leek een enorm sterke te worden nadat de Braziliaan zich voor zijn allereerste IndyCar race in St. Petersburg meteen in de Firestone Fast Six had geplaatst, een goed race resultaat neerzetten bleek echter lastiger dan aanvankelijk gedacht, het beste resultaat van de Braziliaan tot op heden is dan ook een elfde plaats behaald in de 2018 ABC Supply 500 op Pocono Raceway.

In 2019 zal Leist er dan ook alles aan gelegen zijn om samen met zijn ervaren teamgenoot Kanaan er bij het team van A.J. Foyt Enterprises een mooi seizoen van te maken.
