8405 In IndyCar Racing A.J. Foyt is more than just a driver and a car owner, he is an icon. Since 1965 Foyt has been a driving force in the IndyCar world on and off of the track. While an active driver, Foyt entered into a longtime partnership with Kalamazoo, Michigan businessman Jim Gilmore, and raced under the Gilmore-Foyt Racing name for many years. Together the duo won two Indianapolis 500s and three national IndyCar Championships.

Since retiring as a driver in 1993, Foyt has continued his involvement in racing as owner of A. J. Foyt Enterprises fielding cars in the CART series, then the Indy Racing League (IRL) and NASCAR. The team has continued its success claiming two additional IndyCar Series Titles with pilots Scott Sharp (1996) and Kenny Brack (1998), and one Indianapolis 500 victory in 1999 with Kenny Brack in the cockpit taking Foyt to Victory Lane at the Brickyard for the fifth time. This year Darren Manning will be driving for A.J. Foyt Racing for the second consecutive season.
