Barnburner in Chicago won and lost in the pits
With the laps ticking down, and the front runners three and four wide, Alex Lloyd spun unassisted into the infield, bringing out the the final caution and setting up for what would be the complexion changing pitstop of the race.

Before the pitstop, Will Power, Dan Wheldon and Marco Andretti were heatedly contesting for the win. After the stop, Dario Franchitti, who by his own admission, hadn't been a factor all night, was suddenly leading, due largely in part to a decision by his team not to take on tires allowing him to win the race off pitlane and jump eight places into the lead. Meanwhile Will Power's night was about to go horribly wrong, following a refueling issue which caused him to run out of fuel with just a handful of laps to go, and forcing him back to the pits for a splash and go on lap 196. He would eventually finish a championship jeopardizing 16th.

With the win, Franchitti pulls to within 23 points of current points leader Power, and takes over the lead of the Oval championship.
