Following in the footsteps of other great open-wheel drivers from Brazil, Mario Moraes got his first taste of speed at 11 years old in a go-kart where he displayed talent and recorded impressive results straight away. Utilizing his go-kart success to pave his way, Moraes stepped out to Formula TR 1600 in the United States.

Following his experiences in America, Moraes returned to Brazil to race in the prestigious South American Formula 3 Championship. He then moved to Great Britain to contest the British F3 Championship before returning to the states to pursue an IndyCar career.

In 2008 Moraes made his IndyCar debut with Dale Coyne Racing, where despite being labeled a bit of a wild child, he finished the season with three top-10 performances, including a career-best finish of seventh at Watkins Glen.

2009 saw the young Brazilian switch to KV Technology, where he recorded six top-10 finishes, nine top-10 starts, and a best finish of third at Chicagoland.

A last minute deal finds Moraes back with KV Technology for 2010 alongside 09 rival EJ Viso and IndyCar newcomer Takuma Sato.
