Dutchman Robert Doornbos will make his Champ Car debut with Paul Stoddart's Minardi Team USA in 2007. Doornbos finished third in the 2004 Formula 3000 championship and was named rookie of the year. In late 2004 and 2005 he test drove for Jordan Grand Prix in Formula One. In 2005, beginning with the German Grand Prix, he assumed the role of race driver for Minardi. He became Red Bull's test driver in 2006 and competed in the final three races. In 2007, he will continue test driving for Red Bull while competing in Champ Car full time.
