Ryan Briscoe, Homestead Ryan Briscoe steps out of the American Le Mans Series and back into an IndyCar for the 2008 season. The Australian started test driving for Toyota Formula One in 2002 while competing in Formula 3000 and German Formula 3. He became Toyota’s third driver in 2004 after former Friday driver Ricardo Zonta moved into Cristiano da Matta’s Formula One seat. In 2005, Briscoe raced for Target Chip Ganassi Racing in the IRL, but a serious accident at Chicagoland Speedway ended his season in September.

Briscoe spent the next two seasons driving in various events including the Bathurst 1000 and A1GP’s event in Laguna Seca. Briscoe also subbed for da Matta with RuSPORT in Champ Car’s final two races in 2006. After competing for Penske in the American Le Mans Series and scoring Luczo Dragon Racing (Penske’s son Jay’s team) a top five finish in the 92nd running of the Indianapolis 500, Briscoe will replace Sam Hornish Jr. on Penske’s IndyCar team in 2008.
