Pagenaud on Pole in Iowa

Simon Pagenaud blitzed the field again in qualifying to score his fifth pole of the season ahead of Sunday's Iowa Corn Indy 300. His lap average of 185.885 mph bettered Josef Newgarden, who will flank Pagenaud on the front row. Helio Castroneves will start third while Max Chilton and Charlie KImball starred for Chip Ganassi Racing and will start fourth and fifth.

Pagenaud's pole is also a milestone for Team Penske as it marks the organization's 500th pole. "That's pretty cool isn't it. 500 [poles for Penske Racing]- how cool is that?" said the current points leader. "It is just qualifying and we still have a lot of work to do this weekend but it certainly is a great stamp on the work the No. 22 team has been doing, as well as the whole Penske organization."

Deeper in the field, Andretti Autosport, which has won all but two of the races held at Iowa Speedway, has been struggling all weekend. Carlos Munoz was the best of the group, but languished in 15th at the end of qualifying. Hit teammates did not better, with Alexander Rossi starting 17th, Marco Andretti starting 19th, and Ryan Hunter-Reay starting 20th. ""That was a really hard qualifying for sure," said Munoz. "We're missing a little bit of balance in general. We have to work hard tonight. That wasn't the qualifying we were hoping for."

The green flag flies Sunday at 5:00 p.m. ET.
