After running four cars in the Pro Mazda Championship for the first time in 2014 and bringing home plenty of hardware, including eight victories, nine pole positions, and the championship, team owner Ricardo Juncos brought four cars back to Pro Mazda for 2015 and expanded to Indy Lights competition full-time for the first time in their history. There wasn’t just expansion on-track, however. Juncos also actively utilized the Juncos Driver Development Program to introduce Nicolas Dapero to the team, allowing him to spend time with the team throughout the 2015 season and take part in testing and simulator work. Juncos also announced the construction of the brand-new Juncos Technical Center in Speedway, Ind., to house his expanding motorsports empire.
The continued expansion of the Juncos Racing program came with no drop-off in form, however, as 2015 saw the team claim four wins and five pole positions in Pro Mazda to complement their six wins, four poles, and the championship in Indy Lights. Their ability to attract top quality talent—both in the cockpit and throughout the team—continues to elevate them above the competition. 2016 appears to be no different.
Juncos has recently announced their full four-car lineup for the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires, with Garett Grist spearheading their championship charge in his return to the team and third year in the series, joined by fellow Juncos sophomore Will Owen, the newly promoted Dapero, and 2014 AsiaCup Championship champion, Australian Jake Parsons. Grist ended 2015 on a high note, winning three of the final seven races and starting on pole position in four of the final seven races. The young Canadian will likely be the favorite for the championship when the season kicks off in St. Petersburg, Fla., in March.
Juncos has also announced two of their Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires drivers thus far, with a rumored and likely expansion of at least one additional car meaning Juncos will continue to grow next season. Canadian karting champion and Formula Renault 2.0 competitor Zachary Claman Demelo will join returning Californian Kyle Kaiser. Any further additions are likely to be announced over the coming weeks, but popular conjecture has 2014 Juncos Racing Pro Mazda driver Jose Gutierrez making the step up to Indy Lights with the team as well.
The green and white machine rolls on in 2016, and expectations will continue to be high for the now highly-regarded Juncos Racing effort.
