Indy 500 Fast Facts - Qualification Day

With a week of practice under their belts, and an extra dose of boost in their engines, 34 Drivers will take to their cars on Saturday and attempt to qualify for the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500. There will be some who's sole goal will be just to "get it in the show", and there will be some that will not be satisfied with anything other than the front row, specifically the pole, which not only brings with it bragging rights, but also a cheque for $100,000. No doubt, Ed Carpenter will be in the second group, attempting to pull off what no one in history has: 3 consecutive Indy 500 Poles.

Following today's practice, everyone gathered for the Qualification Draw. One by one numbers were pulled out of a bucket by drivers, team owners, offspring, parents, sponsors, and PR reps, setting the order for Saturday's qualification runs, with Carlos "Grumpy Cat" Huertas pulling out the coveted 1st spot.
