Jamin Sweeps GP of Indy Weekend

After the dramatic, last-lap pass that gave Nico Jamin of Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing his third win in Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda competition in Race 1 of the Grand Prix of Indianapolis, Jamin enjoyed a much more relaxed run to claim victory in Race 2 and sweep the weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Aaron Telitz made it a Cape Motorsports 1-2, while young Australian continued his fine run of form for rookie team John Cummiskey Racing to claim the final spot on the podium.

Jamin started on the pole position for Race 2 and was away at the start, while behind him Jake Eidson, the former championship leader, was involved in a slight incident starting from the third position and was forced to make a pit stop. That minor dust-up on the opening lap allowed Anthony Martin to jump up from sixth to third, and that was the basic conclusion of the drama at the front of the field. Jamin from there settled in and slowly stretched his lead out to a final winning margin of 4.866 seconds over Telitz, who was some 15 seconds ahead of Martin.

Behind the lead trio, Luke Gabin and Yufeng Luo had a somewhat spirited battle, with Gabin claiming fourth and Luo fifth, salvaging a decent day for Pabst Racing after Eidson’s early contact. With the weekend concluded, Jamin now claims the points lead heading into the newly-renamed Freedom Festival at Lucas Oil Raceway, the sole oval event on the USF2000 calendar, on May 23.
